Victory for the Barbarians in their first Cup Match !

The joint Burton/Barton Barbarian team travelled to Willenhall for their first cup match with a strong squad. It did not take long for the Barbarians to make an impression with a great sprint by Jack S, finished with a try within the first 5 minutes of the game. Following a series of line outs, Hector managed to steal the ball and powered through tacklers passing to Charlie.G who scored the second try which was then converted by Ollie. The Barbarians showed great strength and commitment in the scrums ensuring that they continued to win the ball. Jack.S managed another great steal from Willenhall and after a good run passed to Dillon who was there in support and went on to score the third try. Charlie G then won the ball and on his way towards the try line managed to power through several tacklers before passing to Henry T to score the fourth try. The final try followed the same format with the forwards dominant play ensuring they won the ball and another great run this time from Henry T who passed to Jack S for the final try of the first half.

The second half saw some great team work from the backs to get the ball all the way down the pitch with over six passes being counted ! There was an unfortunate knock on which lead to a scrum where the Barbarians succeeded in a turnover, getting the ball out quick to Ollie to score a try and kick a conversion. The great passing continued with Tom. H receiving the ball and committing to a long, powerful run seeing off a few tacklers which saw him score a try. The next one followed quickly with Charlie G catching the Willenhall kick and running in the try. Jack H showed some powerful play forcing his way through several Willenhall tacklers with a great pass to Marcus who ran in the try managing to avoid a late tackler. The dominant forward play continued keeping the Barbarians with good possession. A further try was run in by Henry T with great support from Jack S and a conversion from Ollie. The pattern of the game continued with the ball being passed out to Jake who following another run scored a try. The final try came from Charlie G who celebrated with a swallow dive and converted by Henry.T.

A mention should be made to Willenhall who continued to battle on and play with determination, never giving up. It was a very physical game for both sides. It was impossible to pick a man of the match with every player giving 100% and contributing to the win, including the injured subs who were enthusiastic in their support.
