The first game of the season for Burton U13s saw them start slowly against a strong home side. Ashbourne scored an early try on the break after initial Burton pressure and set the pattern for this third of the match. Ashbourne secured a further 3 tries from quick breaks, with Burton getting 2 back (Alex M & Ed) to finish 24-12 down at the break.
The balance of play then switched to Burton, who dominated the second third with strong forward play and flowing passing. Scores from Lewis, Dan and 2 more by Ed took the scores to 31-38.
The final third was more evenly balanced, with good pressure from both sides. Burton continued to advance on the Ashbourne line, with penetrating runs by Matty, Frankie and Sam in particular. This possession was not converted into points however and the home side again broke away to score. Finally Ed took the ball over the line for his fourth of the day, with Chris getting Burton's 8th try of the match.
A good morning of rugby from both sides saw the final score Ashbourne 36 - 50 Burton.
