Burton were determined today to beat down the onslaught of Burntwood attacks to beat them on their own turf with exceptionally poor and sandy pitch conditions on which David Hasselhoff would have struggled, but not our boys!

The match ensued with a grubber kick being fumbled by a Burntwood forward. Georgie- boy Else ran onto the ball picking it up and making a fantastic dash towards the Burntwood try line. As previously mentioned the pitch was sodden and the ball wet and difficult to handle and a few knock on’s and missed passes by both teams left all players scrambling for the ball UNTIL a hefty tackle by Burntwood sees them gain possession and run over the line for their first try which went unconverted. Burntwood 5 Burton 0

Game again starts off with yet another grubber kick... but where is it going ??? Oh... straight between the legs of a Burntwood player and with the blink of an eye Matt ‘the machine’ Shenton is around him gathering up the ball and shipping it out to Liam ‘ram-man’ O’Toole... Burton using their line well, the ball is received by Ben ‘the man-mountain’ Acton who draws his man before shipping the ball to Pete ‘the danger’ Grainger who dives over the line for Burtons 1st try. With a fantastic kick Will ‘the boot’ Bower converts. Burntwood 5 Burton 7

Burntwood kick off and game is midfield for a short while... difficult conditions making for difficult play but Burntwood have the ball and are shipping it along their own line only for a fantastic interception by Declan Bristow who ships the ball out to Georgie-boy Else but a high tackle brings him down by his scrum cap... is Georgie bothered NOPE, with a quick dust off he is ready to play on well done Georgie Boy.

No further score by either side in the first half leaving it at Burntwood 5 Burton 7.

The 2nd half sees a determined Burntwood start off strong tackling hard and making a dash down the right wing until Zack ‘the attack’ Fellows takes him into touch.
After a good line out by Burntwood, Burton are on the defensive... Burntwood have a scrum 5m from Burton try line, Crouch Touch Set push 234, Burntwood come away with the ball and run over the try line but they are held up by the amazing defensive play of Burton. Play resumes with a Burton kick but Burntwood gather the ball and are again making headway and succeed in getting over the try line for their 2nd try of the game which again goes unconverted. Burntwood 10 Burton 7

Jake ‘the punisher O’Toole’ shouts UP THE LINE LADS and the Burton Bulldogs run straight back up to restart, A grubber kick again but it goes the distance and fantastic play by Burton see them gain possession but the ball is so wet that it slips out of our hand giving a knock on. Burntwood now have possession and are making a break for it but its futile... he is brought down on Burtons 22 yard line, Jack ‘the mutant’ Mumf has the ball and he ships it to Ben ‘the man mountain’ Acton who is making a break of his own... as Burntwood prepare to tackle, the ball is shipped to Millar ‘the panzer’ Pride, who makes an awesome dash, side step... side step 2... the boys dancing as he ships it to Pete ‘the danger’ Grainger who leaps through the air like superman; he is over the line for a spectacular try which Will ‘the boot’ Bower easily converts taking the score Burntwood 10 Burton 14.

With only minutes left a disheartened Burntwood kick off and some very high tackles give Burton possession. Niall ‘the cruncher’ Collett takes a quick kick and ships the ball out and some fantastic hands gets the ball to Jake ‘the punisher’ O’Toole... who runs over the try line and is almost in the dead ball area yelling “where’s the line... where is it?” To which his team mates are shouting back to him to put the ball to ground which is so duly does for Burton’s 3rd try which went unconverted. The final score Burntwood 10 Burton 19

Well done lads, today saw excellent team work in extremely poor conditions. A well deserved win.
