Burton U13's hammer home a 24 - 10 win against a formidable side.

Burton U13’s had a tough battle on their hands today against Nuneaton... The match started off with Burton’s Niall Collett kicking the ball straight into the hands of the Nuneaton’s No.2 who ran it straight back into a wall of black and white, counter rucking ensued. 1st scrum and the Nuneaton came out with the ball only to lose possession after a thumping tackle made by Millar Pride. Niall Collett recovered the ball and made a dash for the try line but was unfortunately tackled 3m short. The ball was shipped out into the capable hands of Callum Mason who ran the ball over the line for the 1st of Burtons 4 tries. Will Bower then converted the try, the score Burton 7 Nuneaton 0.

Most of the 1st half was played deep in enemy territory with hard tackles being made by both teams, neither side willing to give up and with true grit and determination from the halfway line Georgie Boy Else steps on the gas and out runs 4 Nuneaton players and is over the try line before pleasantly placing the ball to ground Burton’s 2nd try. Will Bower again connects with the perfect boot to ball kick to convert Burtons 2nd try of the match taking the score to Burton 14 Nuneaton 0.

10 minutes remaining of the 1st half and Burtons defence were struggling with some well timed passing by Nuneaton. Unfortunately for Nuneaton, they took their eye off Burton’s Forward Jake O’Toole who put in a thundering tackle leaving the Nuneaton player wondering what had just hit him! Niall Collett scooped the ball up and shipped it out to Josh Kent who ran the ball over to get Burton’s 3rd try. Unfortunately the wind had picked up and denied young Mr Bower the conversion, the score Burton 19 Nuneaton 0

With seconds left on the clock the Nuneaton manage to out run Burton’s line of defence and score a try. Well done Nuneaton but the wind cruelly denied the conversion, the score at half time Burton 19 Nuneaton 5.

2nd half starts. Is that a Colt I see before my eyes? No! It’s one of Burtons newest team members and man mountain Ben Acton running through the Nuneaton defence like a man possessed, a very well timed tackle brings him to ground but only after he skilfully passed the ball to Jack Johnson. With Ben Acton back on his feet, Jack Johnson shipped the ball back to him and he ran the ball over the try line to score Burton’s final try of the match. Unfortunately due to the sharp angle and the wind, and despite Will Bower’s valiant effort, the conversion is again denied. Burton 24 Nuneaton 5

Play resumed and Nuneaton run the ball over Burtons try line to score their 2nd and final try of the match but again they were unable to convert.

Burton’s U13’s played amazingly well today; the whole team looked fantastic, a formidable force, well formed and determined. Well done lads... A well deserved win and a pleasure to watch.
