Three minutes in, Flyhalf Will P picked up a loose ball at a Matlock ruck which had been dominated by Burton, forwards, making a silky run through a disjointed Matlock defence to touch down five yards in from the touchline on the right of the posts.

Burton forwards continued where they had left off at the restart, carrying into contact and recycling clean ball for the backs. On the nine-minute mark, flyhalf Philiskirk touches down for his second try of the game 0 - 10. Missed conversion.
At the restart, Matlock began to find their feet. They worked their way into Burton's twenty-two however, Burton organised their defence well, committing to multiple big tackles, this attack ended when Ellis managed to get himself under the ball being carried by Matlock’s biggest player to prevent a try being scored. Burton managed to clear their try line only for Matlock to recycle the ball from a ruck on Burtons ten yard line, passing the ball along their backs to create a try-scoring opportunity for their right-wing however, Flanker Mills made a crunching try line-saving tackle, causing the attacking player to knock on whilst being driven into touch. A solid scrum enables Burton to clear their line again.
The remainder of the first half saw both sides play some good rugby on and around the halfway line. Burton continued to dominate the rucks and the defence remained solid into the break.

From the restart, Burton pinned Matlock back in their own twenty-two. Corey put in a powerful run that put Burton in a great try-scoring position but the ball was turned over, Burton pressure caused Matlock to run the ball out over the dead ball line. Disappointingly, after pinning Matlock on their own try line for four minutes or so, Burton came away without any points. Matlock had sorted out their rucking at the interval and started to put some phases together. They started to find holes in the Burton defence resulting in their first try on 32 minutes.

Despite Burton's tackle high count, Matlock continued to get stronger with some great ball handling along their backs, Matlock found an opening on the right wing for their winger to run in their second try of the game. The conversion proved to be the deciding factor in this entertaining match and although Burton didn’t stop trying, Matlock saw the match out to take a hard-fought victory over the visitors.
