The conditions were poor with rain falling for most of the match so there was never going to be the Champagne rugby we saw last week end but nevertheless 51 points were scored.
Burton started the game badly by trying to run from their own 22 instead of kicking to clear. Then a knock on gave the home team the ball and a clever reverse pass by the centre allowed his colleague to score the first try of the game. From the restart Dudley again went on the attack and the centre chip kicked the ball over the Burton defence to score the second try. Both conversions were missed but the visitors found themselves ten points down after just ten minutes.
Burton now started to play to the conditions better cutting out unnecessary risks and therefore handling errors. After a period of pressure on the home defence fly half Harry Titley kicked along the ground to the corner. The full back missed the ball and winger Harris Mountford picked up to score. Chaz Bunting added the extra points to bring the visitors within three points.
From the restart Burton got their hands on the ball again and started to drive at the home defence, however a series of poor passes slowed their progress but eventually the ball found its way to full back Leroy Bitterhout who spotted a narrow gap and showed blistering pace to run through it and score in the corner. The conversion was missed but Burton were ahead for the first time in the match.
The Burton pack was superior in the set scrums and the line outs so were able to put a lot of pressure on the home team. After a good drive by the forwards and backs combined the ball was recycled quickly and flanker Jack Neal despite being tackled managed to get the ball down in the corner. The conversion was missed but at half time the score was 10-22.
After the interval Burton took control of the game. The kept the ball tight and only passed it when necessary. In this fashion the visitors worked their way into the home 22 where Titley again put in a grubber kick to the corner. The defender again failed to gather the ball and the speedy Bitterhout was on hand to score his second try. The conversion was missed.
The home team now tried to attack but they were unable to penetrate the Burton defence who put in some crunching tackles. Burton again got into the Dudley 22 and forced a penalty. The kick was missed but from the drop out the ball was gathered by Joe Gazzard who crashed through the defence and found spud Taylor in support to score under the posts. Bunting converted.
Because they were now chasing the game the home team made a series of errors which Burton capitalised on. They scored two more tries before the end of the match. First when centre Jack Brooks made a strong run towards the line and passed to substitute Will Simpson to score wide out and then after another drive by the forwards scrum half Bunting made a break to score the last try of the match. Bunting converted the first of these tries but failed to convert his own.
The final score was Dudley Kingswinford 10 Burton 41. The score line belies the fact that this was a tough match for Burton so this was a good win. They stay at third place in Midlands 1 West but on the same number of points as Bromsgrove and Rugby Lions.
